Fall Meeting, scheduled to take place in San Francisco from December 11th
to 15th, 2023.

*Session Description*: *Site effects are produced by local geological
conditions and play a key role in seismic hazard assessment and mapping
since they can affect the amplitude, frequency, and duration of ground
motion. They include the effects of surface and sub-surface topography,
stratigraphic discontinuities, rock fracturing, and soil layering. **The
site response is often assessed by using numerical modeling, earthquake
data, and ambient vibrations. 1D/2D velocity models are obtained using
active- and passive-source geophysical surveys (e.g., linear or 2D, single-
or multi-station surface-based array methods, reflection/refraction,
down-hole and cross-hole seismic methods). However, since site effects are
generally caused by 3-D subsoil features, the exploitation of 3-D imaging
approach and modeling would be more suitable. **This session encourages
discussions on innovative geophysical applications for site
characterization, along with multidisciplinary and multi-scale studies,
pulling together a variety of datasets that are employed to shed light on
not-straightforward site characterization problems over different
geological contexts.*
